Plateau State University Takes Action to Complete Abandoned Infrastructure Projects
Plateau State University Bokkos has initiated efforts to address the pending issues related to abandoned infrastructure projects on campus. The aim is to complete these facilities and alleviate ongoing infrastructural challenges facing the university.
On April 28, the university's Governing Council Ad Hoc Committee on Abandoned Projects conducted a three-hour tour of six projects dating back to 2014, assessing their completion status, structural integrity, and compliance with specifications.
Associate Professor Nathaniel Kamo, leader of the committee, emphasized a commitment to ensuring that contractors who have received funding for various projects but have left them unfinished return to the site. Additionally, those with outstanding financial and administrative issues will be invited for dialogue.
The inspected projects include:
- A 1,500-capacity multipurpose auditorium awarded by the Plateau State government on November 12, 2013, with a 52-week completion period.
- A mini stadium awarded by Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) on August 1, 2019, expected to be completed within 16 weeks.
- A studio/laboratory for the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, awarded by TETFund on December 16, 2020, with a 30-week completion timeline.
- An Academic Planning block awarded by TETFund on the same date, also expected to be completed in 30 weeks.
- A General Studies block awarded by TETFund on December 16, 2020, with a completion period of 54 weeks.
- A Faculty of Environmental Sciences project awarded on February 22, 2020, with a 52-week completion deadline.
Despite surpassing their deadlines, all projects are currently between 75% and 88% complete, with no contractors present on site.
Associate Professor Kamo highlighted structural integrity and finishing concerns and assured a diligent effort to resolve all outstanding issues.
